In-Office Whitening
What is the best bleaching gel?
Every MAGIC SMILE gel is meticulously crafted to excel in specific cases, tailored to its intended purposes. This precision is essential because the condition of enamel and the extent of pigmentation can significantly differ among patients. Here's a general guideline:
- 44% Carbamide Peroxide: Recommended for patients with thinner enamel and increased sensitivity.
- 25% Hydrogen Peroxide: Suitable for patients with a balanced state of enamel.
- 38% Hydrogen Peroxide: Ideal for patients with dense enamel and deep pigmentation.
We recommend starting with the 44% Carbamide Peroxide Gel for the initial stages of bleaching and, if needed, progressing to the stronger Hydrogen Peroxide Gel.
It's essential to note that achieving the best whitening results while maintaining safety typically involves a gradual increase in the gel's activity. MAGIC SMILE has designed special protocols with unique combinations of gels of varying intensities to provide the best results while ensuring patient comfort. Your choice of gel will depend on the patient's specific enamel condition and goals.
Which bleaching gel is strongest?
The strength of bleaching gels is determined by their active ingredient and peroxide percentage. Generally, the higher the percentage, the stronger the gel. Gels containing hydrogen peroxide are approximately three times stronger than carbamide peroxide gels.
For example, a 44% Carbamide Peroxide gel is equivalent in strength to a 15% Hydrogen Peroxide Gel.
Do I need to activate the bleaching gel with a lamp?
Yes, it's recommended to activate the bleaching gel with the MagicLight Pro+ Lamp for maximum efficiency. The lamp activates the whitening gels and accelerates the bleaching process.
What lamps do the gels work with?
MAGIC SMILE bleaching gels are optimized for use with the MagicLight Pro+ Lamp, which provides the best results. However, they can also be used with most LED and halogen lamps.
Keep in mind that teeth whitening protocols may vary depending on the type of lamp used.
Can MagicLight Pro+ Lamp be used to cure liquid gingival barrier gel?
No, the MagicLight Pro+ Lamp is specifically designed for activating bleaching gels and should not be used to cure liquid gingival barrier gel. You should use a special curing light designed for this purpose.
Can the teeth whitening be done if the patient has veneers, fillings or restorations?
Teeth whitening can be performed on natural tooth tissue, but it's not effective on veneers, fillings, or restorations. These dental materials have a different structure than enamel and don't respond to teeth bleaching. In some cases, old restorations might be suitable for whitening if pigments have accumulated in the pores of the material, but the material itself cannot be bleached.
How often can in-office whitening be done?
In-office teeth whitening using MAGIC SMILE Carbamide Peroxide Gel should be done no more than once every 3 months. When using any of the MAGIC SMILE Hydrogen Peroxide Gels, it's recommended to allow at least 6 months between treatments. Overusing teeth whitening procedures can lead to increased tooth sensitivity and other potential issues, so it's important to follow these recommended timeframes.
Home Whitening
Why does the color return, and is it necessary to perform the complete MAGIC SMILE complex with at-home whitening treatments?
The color of a tooth is directly influenced by the pigment in the dentin, which contains double-colored carbon bonds. These bonds must be thoroughly destroyed during the bleaching process. However, if these connections aren't completely eradicated, they can rapidly regenerate. Destruction can be achieved through either a too potent gel or prolonged exposure, but too quick and powerful whitening can potentially harm tooth health.
To address this, MAGIC SMILE has meticulously developed specific protocols and gel concentrations for clinical whitening, integrating a step of home whitening into the comprehensive complex. This combination ensures a moderately active and enduring impact on the carbon bonds, leading to their destruction.
Home whitening enhances the effectiveness of clinical whitening, promoting a more uniform color and prolonging the results.
IMPORTANT: Any teeth whitening is temporary due to the porous nature of enamel. New pigment constantly accumulates inside the tooth, while plaque forms on the outside. While the whitening procedure helps remove accumulated pigment, it can reaccumulate over time due to factors like diet, smoking, and oral hygiene. Therefore, whitening results are not permanent, and maintenance may be required to keep teeth looking their best.
When to provide home whitening after the clinical bleaching?
Home whitening should be initiated 2-5 days after the in-office teeth-whitening procedure. This timing helps maximize the whitening results.
How long is the home whitening treatment?
Home whitening with Magic Light Mini typically lasts for 30 minutes. This duration allows for the activation of the gel using a safe spectrum of blue light for the first 25 minutes, followed by an additional 5 minutes of red light activation. The red light offers benefits such as reducing oral bacteria. Magic Light Mini is designed to automatically turn off after 30 minutes of use. For acceptable results, 15 minutes of whitening with Magic Light Mini may also be sufficient, but to achieve the best and longest-lasting results, 30 minutes is recommended.
How often can home whitening be done?
A full course of home whitening, which consists of one bleaching session for 5-10 consecutive days, can be repeated every 3 months. Single applications for maintenance can be done more frequently as needed.
How many shades are teeth whitened?
MAGIC SMILE home whitening can deliver results of up to 8 shades when utilized independently. Furthermore, when combined with the clinical procedure, it adds an extra 5 shades to enhance the overall outcome.
Do I need to activate the whitening gel or strips with the Magic Light Mini?
Yes, to achieve the best results, the Magic Smile Home whitening products should be used with the Magic Light Mini LED Lamp. This lamp is designed to activate the whitening gels and accelerate the teeth whitening process. While you can use the whitening strips or gels on their own, using them in conjunction with the Magic Light Mini is recommended for achieving the maximum result.
How to clean Magic Light Mini?
The Magic Light Mini LED lamp is not waterproof as it contains batteries. After the whitening procedure is finished, ensure that you separate the mouth tray from the Magic Light Mini. You can then rinse the mouth tray with warm water for cleaning.
Bleaching Procedure
How long is the bleaching procedure?
The duration of the bleaching procedure primarily depends on the selected Protocol and the patient's dental condition. In general, the entire procedure typically lasts between 30 to 90 minutes. However, it's crucial to ensure that the whitening gel remains active on the teeth for no more than 65 minutes per visit to maintain safety.
How many applications/sessions per procedure?
For each procedure, we recommend 3 applications or sessions. You can find more specific details in the Protocols section to understand the recommended number of applications for various cases and desired results.
What distance should the lamp be from the teeth?
Keep the lamp approximately 2-3 cm away from the teeth to ensure that the light is evenly distributed across both the upper and lower jaws.
How to apply the bleaching gel?
To apply the gel, ensure that it's in a thin layer of approximately 1 mm. This thickness allows the oxygen atoms to effectively penetrate the tooth's structure, breaking down pigment. Use brushes to gently but firmly rub the gel onto the enamel. Applying the gel in a thick layer and loosely to the enamel may result in less penetration of oxygen particles into the tooth's structure, leading to weaker whitening.
Should the patient's gums be isolated?
Yes, it's recommended to isolate the patient's gums. Only isolate the gum edge in the smile zone to prevent the gel from causing micro burns. We recommend using the MagicDam Gingival Barrier for this purpose. Isolation is particularly important when using the Hydrogen Peroxide Gels. When using our Carbamide Peroxide Gels, teeth whitening can be done safely without isolating the gums, but it should be done with careful application.
Do I need to expose the Magic Dam Gingival Barrier?
Yes, you should expose the MagicDam Gingival Barrier to isolate the gingival margin. Our gingival barrier protection gel cures under the photopolymer lamp, ensuring proper isolation.
Does the tongue need to be stabilized during the procedure?
Occasionally, the patient's tongue may accidentally come into contact with the gel. Some patients may also become tired of trying to keep their tongue away from the gel while keeping their mouth open. To address this, Magic Smile retractors are equipped with a special tongue holder designed to prevent inadvertent contact between the gel and the tongue.
Although it's not a common occurrence, and you can still perform teeth whitening procedures without such retractors if needed.
Bleaching Results
How many shades can you whiten your teeth in one clinical procedure?
Whitening teeth in one clinical procedure can typically achieve a shade improvement of up to 10 tones on a whitening shade guide designed specifically for teeth whitening.
IMPORTANT! During whitening, the accumulated non-white pigment is removed. Whitening occurs to the natural color of the teeth, but does not change the genetically-embedded color of the tooth structure. The degree of whitening may vary from person to person, depending on the individual's starting tooth color, bleaching protocols, and other factors.
How long does the whitening effect last with Magic Smile Bleaching Protocols?
The duration of the whitening effect with Magic Smile bleaching protocols can vary:
- Gentle Protocol: Up to 12 months.
- Balanced Protocol: Up to 15 months.
- Maximum Strength Protocol: Up to 16 months.
For maximum and longer-lasting results, it's recommended to use Magic Smile Home Kits 2-5 days after the in-office teeth whitening procedure, which can extend the duration by up to 12 months in addition to the chosen protocol.
So, the maximum duration of teeth whitening effects can be extended up to 24-28 months when a full course of home whitening is followed immediately after an in-office procedure, and supportive home procedures are done every 6 months.
What should I do at the end of the in-office bleaching if the result is not satisfactory?
If the result of the in-office bleaching is not satisfactory, it's essential to remember that the complete course for the maximum result involves both the clinical procedure and the subsequent home whitening course. However, if there is a need to quickly enhance the outcome of the in-office procedure, one or two additional applications of the 38% Hydrogen Peroxide Gel can be made, provided the patient's enamel condition allows it. If possible, it is advisable to perform additional applications on the following day.
Does the home teeth whitening improve the results of in-office bleaching?
Home teeth whitening can improve the results achieved through in-office bleaching, offering advantages such as more uniform whitening, significantly longer-lasting results, and additional brightening by up to 5 shades on a whitening shade guide.Using MAGIC SMILE protocols, adherence to a comprehensive approach leads to the best results.
What is the “white diet” and how does it affect the whitening result?
The "white diet" involves refraining from consuming foods and drinks that can stain the enamel of your teeth. This dietary regimen is particularly important immediately after a teeth-whitening procedure while the whitening gel remains active inside the teeth, which can last for up to 24 hours. Adhering to the "white diet" is crucial for achieving the desired whitening results and maintaining those changes.
Here are some guidelines for the "white diet" in the days following a whitening procedure:
- Avoid products containing colorings.
- Refrain from smoking.
- Steer clear of overly hot or cold foods and drinks.
- Avoid using lipstick or lip gloss.
- Stay away from any foods or drinks that could stain a white shirt.
- Use toothpaste and mouthwash that are not colored.
It's recommended to follow the "white diet" for at least two weeks after the teeth-whitening procedure to ensure the best and longest-lasting results and prevent teeth staining.
Please note: If you consume foods or drinks that can stain your enamel, be sure to use MAGIC SMILE FOAM TOOTHPASTE to brush your teeth as soon as possible. This will help mitigate the staining effects and maintain the whitening results.
Safety & Contraindications
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, MAGIC SMILE teeth whitening is safe when conducted under the supervision of a specialist and following the recommended protocols. MAGIC SMILE gels do not contain abrasive particles, nitrates, or harmful additives. The Magic Light Pro+ features Pulp Overheating Protection Technology and utilizes a safe, cold-blue spectrum light to activate the gel. Can teeth be whitened during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
It's important to take the safest precautions during pregnancy. We do not advise teeth whitening procedures during any trimester, especially the first trimester..
Is there an age requirement for teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is not recommended for individuals under 18 years old, as their dental pulp may not be fully developed.
Who shouldn't whiten their teeth?
Here are some individuals who should not undergo teeth whitening:
- Those with unrealistic expectations, expecting results beyond what is achievable based on their natural tooth color.
- Those under 18 years old, as their dental pulp may not be fully formed.
- Those with tooth decay, enamel or gum disease, and tooth or oral infections.
- Those with tooth sensitivities, cracks, exposed tooth necks, or erosion.
- Those with GERD or increased acidity, which can lead to weak enamel or increased sensitivity.
- Those with a significant reduction in enamel due to tooth abrasion.
- Those who have had recent dental work that involves curing or bonding (whitening can decrease the effect of the bonding process).
- Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.
Teeth Sensitivity
Is there significant sensitivity after bleaching?
In most cases, teeth sensitivity rarely increases as a result of whitening with the MAGIC SMILE system. Our bleaching gels are formulated with special components to reduce sensitivity. At the conclusion of the procedure, Magic Minerals gel is applied to strengthen the enamel and reduce the risk of hypersensitivity.
However, it's important to note that hypersensitivity might occur when using the Maximum Protocol. Additionally, teeth sensitivity may increase during menstrual cycles. Therefore, it's essential to consider these factors when selecting a whitening protocol and consulting with the patient.
What should I do if the teeth hurt the next day?
If the patient's teeth hurt the next day after the procedure, you should consider the following steps:
- Administer remineralizing therapy to reduce sensitivity.
- Advise the patient to take a pain reliever if necessary.
It's important to note that when using MAGIC SMILE gels, such cases of post-treatment sensitivity are extremely rare. In most cases, any sensitivity experienced by the patient should subside within 24 hours.
When should remineralizing therapy be performed?
To reduce tooth sensitivity, immediately perform it after the bleaching procedure.
For effective mineralization and to prolong the bleaching results, perform it the next day following the bleaching procedure, as the whitening gel remains active in the tooth structure for 10-24 hours.
How should I perform remineralization therapy?
Apply Magic Minerals Gel directly onto the teeth and leave it for 30 minutes. Afterward, remove the gel with a cotton swab, but do not rinse the patient's mouth. We recommend that the patient refrains from eating or drinking for 2 hours following the procedure.
Should the remineralizing gel Magic Minerals be activated with a lamp?
No, Magic Minerals gel should not be activated with a lamp.
Teeth Cleaning
Is it necessary to have an in-office teeth cleaning before bleaching?
Yes, it is highly recommended to have an in-office teeth cleaning before undergoing a teeth whitening procedure. This cleaning helps remove dense plaque from the enamel surface, ensuring better penetration of the bleaching gel and ultimately leading to a more effective bleaching result.
Is it possible to have an in-office teeth cleaning and bleaching on the same day?
Yes, it is possible to have an in-office teeth cleaning and bleaching on the same day, as long as the cleaning is performed carefully and without causing significant damage to the gums, such as deep scratches or bleeding.
Is it necessary to brush teeth directly before applying the gel?
Brushing your teeth before applying the gel is recommended if you haven't had an in-office cleaning on the same day as the whitening procedure. This helps remove plaque and prevents closing of the dentinal tubules, ensuring better penetration of the whitening gel. Use a toothpaste or powder without fluoride or minerals for this purpose.
Gel Storage Conditions
How should I store bleaching gels?
For long-term storage of more than 7 days, the gel should be refrigerated at a temperature between 4°C to 10°C. It's essential to avoid overheating or overcooling the gel and keep it away from direct sunlight. Proper storage helps maintain the stability and effectiveness of the gel.
What are the storage conditions for transporting the gel?
The gel's formula is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 25°C during transportation or storage for 5-7 days without the need for additional refrigeration. The active components in the gel will remain stable under these conditions.
It's crucial not to expose the gels to sunlight or open the syringes during transportation. As soon as the shipment is received, it should be placed in refrigeration.
During warm seasons, gel delivery includes the use of cold accumulators to maintain the required temperature.
How long can the syringe be stored after its initial use?
After the initial use, securely close the cap, and the syringe can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
What is the pigment in MAGIC SMILE gels for and can it stain the enamel?
The pigment in MAGIC SMILE gels serves specific purposes and is not intended to stain the enamel. It helps in controlling the thickness and area of gel application and assists in differentiating between gels for various uses. The gel color may vary over time or be less saturated, but it remains safe for use on the teeth.
